Our Summer Activities Program gave kids another summer full of exciting
activities and trips, including two Pirates games and a Steelers game. While
parents were at work or running errands, we were at the Carnegie Science Center,
the Pittsburgh Zoo and Acquarium, and at the Benedum for shows like Grease.

Let It Out Winter 2006 Session
The fourth writing class in our "Let It Out" program ran for six
weeks every Thursday from January 12th to February 23rd, 2006. It was taught
by Andrew Sydlik and covered song lyrics and poetry. Each class included a
triggered writing exercise and workshopping of students' writing. We also
critiqued the lyrics of bands such as Good Charlotte, Bowling For Soup, and
Tori Amos, and the poetry of authors such as Linda Hogan, W. B. Yeats, Louise
Gluck, and Robert Creeley.
Fox Chapel Cotillion and "Shall We Dance?" Class

ALL of Us Care Celebrates the Holidays

On December 28, ALL of Us Care spread the holiday cheer with a Christmas party for the children who have participated in our programs regularly. We had a total of 24 kids ranging from Kindergarteners to 8th graders. They played games, ate pizza, and got candy and presents donated through Dollar General, The Toys for Tots Program, the employees of the Township of O'Hara, and Alexa Schwartz. We hope everybody has a safe and fun holiday season. We enjoy caring for kids in our community and your public support makes that so much easier!
ALL of Us Care About Fitness
On Sunday, October 30th, ALL of Us Care and the Fox Chapel School District
held a fitness fair that included:
* personalized exercise advice from local fitness clubs like Club One, Alexander's
Athletic Club, and Taylormade Fitness
* a variety of exercise demonsrations such as yoga, Pilates, aerobics, and
kickboxing
* a Dance Dance Revolution contest: Congratulations to Kristen Mossman (1st
Place) and Morgan Hammer (2nd Place) who both won Playstation II's, and Jeremy
Funaro, who won two movie passes to Waterworks Cinema!
* stress scans and chair massages from Alliance Family Chiropractic
* free iced tea, juices, and milk from Turner's Dairy
* Moonwalk, face painting, the Healthy Apple Mascot
* all-around healthiness and fun!

All-Day Concert at Boyd a Success
Our biggest show ever--a whopping 7 hours, 9 bands, and 200 people! The line-up
consisted of C.J.'s Turtle, Tommy and the Faggots, Hope on a Rope, Missing
Since November, Featherlight, Acidface, Stabbing the Drama, PHVVK, and Dollface
Divine. This was a senior project by Heather Barbus and Graeme Bowers, great
job guys! We brought in over $1,000! The profits went to the purchase of Playstation
II's for our Dance Dance Revolution contest at the October 30th fitness fair--so
your money has gone back to the community.
There were a few glitches as always, but thanks to all the bands and those who gave their time and energy to make it go well.
Kids Day at Guyasuta Days
AOUC participated in Guyasuta Days on Saturday, August 13th for "Kids
Days." From 12 to 2pm, we had kids play games such as bowling and puzzles.
Panera Bread and AOUC Create Safe Place for Youth
On Friday June 10 2005, the Panera
Bread Company in the Waterworks and ALL of Us Care held an event called
Coffee House Rock. This was the first in hopefully many gatherings for local
youth to attend. The brainchild of Sunny Platt and Theresa Smoreys' senior
graduation project brought in forty-five youth who enjoyed beverages and cookies
for five dollars, while other local youth entertained them with music. “This
project was created to provide a safe and fun place for teenagers to go on
a Friday night.” said Sunny and Theresa. The girls plan to hold three
more events just like this at Panera Bread with the supervision of ALL of
Us Care. We also held the Coffee House Rock on July 8, August 19, and September
9 from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
To read all about the July 8th event, see the article from The Herald here.
Summer Activities Program 2005
Thanks to all for a fun, successful summer! We started out with our kick-off
picnic on
June 23 at the 16th Street Park in Sharpsburg. We had 130 people gather to
enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. The event, which included games,
prizes and free photo ID's for children and their families, kicked off ALL
of Us Care's summer programming for the 4th year in a row.
Seventy-eight families participated in this year's field trips. We visited
entertaining sites and events such as the Pittsburgh Zoo, the Pirates at PNC
Park, and the Carnegie Science Center and Sports Works. The kids also got
to engage in supervised swimming and bowling. Admission to these events were
provided to ALL of Us Care through
* The Tickets
for Kids Foundation
* Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy
Scouts of America
* The Child
Health Association of Sewickley, Inc
* DMS PTA
* The Sharpsburg Veterans' Association, and
* The Earl Knudsen Charitable Foundation.
Each of these organizations has granted us funding or services that have allowed us to provide the youth in our area with safe and fun-filled summer activities.
Student Telethon Efforts Providing Flood Relief
Thanks to the students of the Fox Chapel Area School District, who raised
the funds during their annual December Telethon, ALL of Us Care and Network
of Hope have been able to continue flood relief efforts in Sharpsburg
and the surrounding areas within the Fox Chapel Area School District.
That Telethon netted a total of $23,516. Half was designated
for support of ALL of Us Care, which had lost almost all the contents of its
offices in the flood and moved to a new location. The other half was given
to ALL of Us Care to use for flood relief in the School District. To accomplish
that, ALL of Us Care teamed with Network of Hope.
Since January of 2005, both agencies have been working hard to make sure the
$11,758 of Telethon funds designated for flood relief is
used to help those whose homes were lost or damaged in the September 17, 2004
flood. Every effort is being made to make sure the money is being spent timely
on home repairs and household needs that resulted from the devastating floodwaters.
To date the money spent on this relief totals $10,340. The remaining Telethon money, together with additional funds contributed to ALL of Us Care from other sources, is earmarked for the repair of homes and small businesses still in need. Each site has or will be inspected, dried out and then repaired. Network of Hope and ALL of Us Care expect that repair of the buildings involved will be completed by the end of July, 2005.
Certainly, this student effort and the generosity of the Fox Chapel Area School District community has been of immense assistance to the flood victims in our area.
